Greetings, fellow Sourcerers!
My name is Amanda Breeden (she/her) and I’m the new Project Lead for Sourcery, joining the Greenhouse Studios team as a Post-MLS Research Associate. I’ll be heading up Sourcery’s outreach efforts, so I thought I’d take a moment to introduce myself!
I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in May 2023 with my MS in Library Science. Before that, I acquired a BA in History from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. I moved to Connecticut, specifically New Haven, following graduation in order to pursue a full-time position as a Processing Archivist at the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council Archives. There, I processed incoming materials into the collection, re-processed older collections, and created finding aids in ArchivesSpace. During graduate school I worked at the Forest History Society in Durham, NC as an Archival Processing Intern where I pre-processed the Society of American Foresters Collection to prepare it for use by researchers.
In addition to my archives experience, I have also worked in various libraries, starting with the Kathrine R. Everett Law Library at UNC Chapel Hill’s School of Law in Chapel Hill, NC. In that role I completed circulation desk tasks and helped locate resources for law students and practitioners. I also served as an Archival Holleman Intern at Wake County Public Library’s Olivia Raney Local History Library, a special library focusing on Raleigh and Wake County history. There, I developed and installed an exhibit, researched reference questions, processed archival collections, and created a new-hire guide. I also have some museum experience, having worked at the Old Cape Henry Lighthouse in Fort Story, VA, the Historic Johnson Farm in Hendersonville, NC, and the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC.
Technical experience aside, I also have a deep love and passion for history and archives! During my undergraduate program, I concentrated in British material culture, specifically during the Industrial Revolution. I also have a deep love for poetry; my favorite poets include Mary Oliver, Louise Gluck, and Jericho Brown. I’ve also been gaining an interest in physical media, having recently acquired my first turntable – a Thorens TD 166 MK II – and a DVD/VCR! I also have a Pacman Frog named Meatloaf, who is very excited about everything we’re planning for Sourcery behind the scenes!
